Wiltjer not narrowing down schools
Good article talking about Wiltjer's looooooooong list of schools, when he will make a decision and how all these schools are "all equal"
In addition he goes on to state his decision will be based on who that school brings in for players, the coaching staff and the style of play.
You do have to wonder how he will fair under the basket agaist big men at the D-1 level. As this article points out, he has been playing on the best AAU team that is loaded with talented Perimiter players. This is allowing him to take guys on one on one.
Still think his style of play and GU program would mesh well. IMO

"Everyone is equal at this point"... and the list is GROWING
I sure hope he just has his poker face on. Because I certainly hope based on what he has previously said that Gonzaga would be one of the teams on the inside track. Not saying we get him but…sure would be nice.
Maybe he is just keeping options open and will eventually reward a team that has been on him since the beginning….like us.
GO ZAGS!!~
Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
He is taking a wise approach.
Every time some recruting service or message board tries to say he has a “Top 3” or “Top 4”, he shoots it down. And even though he may be leaning toward certain schools, he has always said publicly he is “wide open”. He specifically refuted the Top 4 story.
Clearly, he has a LOT more suitors now. Even Oregon is making me nervous. Their facilities are UNBELIEVABLE and they will be getting a lot better in the next two years. Not sure if they have the talent he seems to want around him.
The other thing that scares me. His AAU teammate Jabarri Brown is a top 25 talent and is also being recruited by Cal and Kansas.
Oregon scares me too
The one thing which may work in our favor is that they recently went through a coaching change. We’ll see how quickly he becomes familiar with Dana Altman but you have to think the cotinuity at Gonzaga is appealing. Few’s been all over this kid from day one and he knows it.
The Slipper Still Fits - SB Nation's home for the Gonzaga Bulldogs!
I agree...
The better he did this Summer with his AAU team the more it felt our chances of getting him were lessening.
Hopefully we will have the best blend of facility, staff, style of play and players to get him to GU.
Lessening?
I have said it before and I will say it again.
There are reasons players come to Gonzaga that have nothing to do with basketball (well not directly anyway). Guys come here because they want to be here — not just for basketball but for the total package.
There are a lot of guys that lack the maturity or life experience to appreciate what we have here. This is not a knock on these guys, you could say the same about me at that age.
My daughter could have gone to just about any college in America. Visited 20+ colleges. Had full ride scholarships to five universities. No one was more surprised that me when she chose GU — the last place she applied (she got some nice scholarship money at GU but I still ended up paying about 8K a year at GU). She grew up in Spokane, tagged along when I was going to law school at GU, went to the GU games and interacted with GU students that worked at my office through the years. For her it was an easy and very obvious choice.
The importance of educating prospects on our program and our community cannot be over stated.
GU IS a big time basketball program. I don’t think anyone can deny that. No matter what a player’s goals may be, they can be realized at GU.
In the end, Basketball is only part of your life. It’s all that other stuff that makes GU such a great choice for the young athlete.
Wiltjer appears to be a great kid. He’s taking advantage of a situation that will only come once in his life. You cannot fault him for that. Remember this is his decision and his life. He’s put in a lot of hard work to get where he is. Now he can reap some of the benefits of that hard work.
There is no need to fret and worry. Our coaching staff does a great job of selling our university. If Gonzaga really is the best place for Wiltjer, he will soon be suiting up for the Bulldogs!

I agree
I’ve always felt like Gonzaga attracts quality guys, with a few exceptions. A lot of this has to do with the coaching staff, much has to do with the university.
