Is the 2010 class a done deal?
We've made it pretty clear on the site that we feel the 2011 class could be a watershed recruiting pull for Gonzaga. The class will officially usher out the Matt Bouldin, Steven Gray, and even some of Jeremy Pargo backcourt and hopefully bring in some guys that can be there in the future along with whoever steps up from our current crop. For that reason, if you had asked me a month ago if Gonzaga would sign anyone in the 2010 class, I probably would have gone with no. Now that I have been proven wrong with the addition of Marquise Carter, I have to wonder if Mark Few is done bringing players in for 2010.
We've heard the rumors that the staff is looking for multiple players but, in my mind, we've already got a two person class. Marquise Carter will come in and bolster the backcourt and then you've got Sam Dower coming off a redshirt season to come in and contribute in the post. That looks like a very solid class to me. When you get involved in recruiting junior college players this late in the game, things start becoming a little blurry. The addition of Marquise was tremendous I though. He's one of the top junior college players in the land and if you watch him, you can immediately see that he has big-time division one ability.
We don't know what to expect from Marquise but we do know what it feels like to have junior college players come in and (to be nice) not live up to the hype. There's no point in naming names because you know the usual suspects that we often talk about and I really believe it is imperative that Gonzaga's remaining two scholarships are used wisely. With one of those spots already pledged to Kyle Dranginis in 2011, I can't imagine the Zags handing out one more in 2010 when their is a potentially very stellar class waiting in the wings next year.
What say you? Does Gonzaga need something right now that you think is worth going out and getting in 2010?

Few said on the last show of he season on KGA they were looking for a couple of perimeter players. He said nothing to indicate they were looking for point guards, just that they’re looking for two on the perimeter, to wit:
“Well, I think we need to add a couple of key parts, we need to add a couple of perimeter players that can help us. We need to get better out there. We lose a phenomenal perimeter player, so we need to probably make some additions there, and we’ve got a couple of guys that redshirted this year that I think could step in and help us, and I think David’s had a good redshirt year, he’s just got to get stronger and bigger. There are some qualities there that I think could help us down the road.”
Elston Turner to transfer
from UW. I know this guy was a 3pt sharp shooter, i wonder if he has an eye on the Zags or if he wants to go home to Texas.
Texas
Turner named Texas A&M and Texas as ideal destinations, but also mentioned finding a place that is a good fit for him. Not sure if Gonzaga is that place, but he’d be a great addition to the wing for the next two years. A proven scorer roaming the perimeter would take pressure off of Gray, Carter, and Sacre.
Going to a D1
Would require sitting out a season. He would have zero impact on Gray. Either way it is, at least, an intriguing idea.

No Bell!
Too many guards here to compete with. MC is the only true point guard at GU but with GJ, Meech, Stockton, Gibbs and KD coming in down the road, I just don’t see him coming here, JMO. Better find a “Big” quickly for 2011 or there is going to be a real drop off in 2 years.
It's not like we've got John Wall and Eric Bledsoe roaming the backcourt
I have yet to see any of those guys listed above make me believe that some guard will walk in here and say “wow, no chance I play here because these guys are GOOD”. I hope and pray that the current stable of guys does show me that, but judging by how we are recruiting now and in the future, the staff is more or less thinking on my wavelength.
The Slipper Still Fits - SB Nation's home for the Gonzaga Bulldogs!

My point is that he will look where he has the best opportunity to play NOW! I would love to get him at GU but my tummy says we’ve moved in another direction, thats all. As I’ve stated before here, GB is already a better PG than either Meech or GJ, IMO. However, Few is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO loyal to his players and unless someone transfers, I just don’t think Gary Bell will come to GU.
They need a point guard with
more in his arsenal than just speed and a lay-up. We have a strong 2 guard in Grey, so pulling in a taller, shooting point guard like Marquise really rounds out the team’s offense. I think we already have good wing men in Kong and Arop, and Kelly O., (if he would start taking some of the three point shots every team leaves him wide open for).
So my humble vote goes like this: Sign Carter and then quit. Go with what we have and save the scholarships for 2011, unles a player comes along that you just can’t refuse.
