Stats

I was looking at some stats from last season from our PGs for next season. I realize that Carters stats are from a JUCO season but i wanted to include them.

Demetri Goodson  6.4 ppg  47% FG  56% FT   13% 3pt

GJ Vilarino  2.3 ppg   47% FG   63% FT   28 % 3pt

Marquise Carter ( JUCO STATS )  17 ppg   43% FG  85% FT   38% 3pt  and 5.5 APG

Star-divide

To be honest i have no idea who the PG will be next season. But if i had to guess it would be GJ and Carter playing behind him. Next season we will have 11 players that will expect to get on the court. 1. S Gray  2. E. Harris 3. R. Sacre  4. S. Dower.   5. GJ  6. D. Goodson  7. M. Carter  8. M. Arop  9. B. Kong  10. KO   11. G. Gibbs.

And we know that Harris will get 28-34 min per game and Gray 30-35 mpg and Sacre 25-30 mpg. So not too many minutes left for the other 8 players.

Someone is going to get the shaft and only get 4 min per game if at all. M. Hart and D. Stockton wont see any PT this season. I hope the staff finds a good rotation next season and we find some points from the bench. We really need a 6th man that can come in and give us a boost on offense. And i really dont care who the PG is next season as long as they can run the offense and shoot from outside and keep the defense honest.

Gray 35 mpg, Harris 30 mpg, Sacre 30 mpg, Dower 13 mpg, KO 15 mpg  GJ 20 mpg, Arop 17 mpg, Carter 15 mpg, Kong 10 mpg, Meech 11 mpg and Gibbs 4 mpg. That adds up to 200 min per game, 5 spots at 40 min per game. I would like to get your take on how the minutes should be divided among 11 players.

My thaughts

This is if Carter decides to stay of course:

1. GJ 25 min/Carter 15 min
2. Gray 35min/Meech 5 min
3. Arop 20 min/Kong 17 min
4. Harris 30 min/ Dower 12 min.
5. Sacre 28 min/KO 13 min

just a guess maybe a wish? Few normally shortens the bench as the year goes on we’ll see.

Gibbs

Isn’t even on your time sheet. I don’t think that discredits what you have here, but it does speak to the depth/problems that we have with our rotation.

Why is Meech a Shooting guard!?

Usually a shooting guard should be able to shoot, also he is 5’11’’ no way he would be able to be a SG.

Meech NOT a shooting guard

By no means do I think Meech is a shooting guard, I put him there to take the place of Gray’s extra time. My guess is that GJ and Carter would play some together in the backcourt when Gray gets a rest. You could also slip GG in there I’m just not shore the staff has much faith in him towards the end of the season. As far as GJ and Carter you could flip flop their minutes, but it won’t be 50/50 playtime. One of them will step up above the other. Why did I pick GJ? Well I see perhaps what Pargo did from Fr. to So. year. Pargo was around 11 min. and 2.8 pts. (I believe) his freshmon year then 28-30min. 12 pts as a sophmore. GJ was at 9 min. and 2.4 pts last year, I think he can make the same type of jump.

Just an early thought from me…I may change my mind over the summer or after I see them in a pre-season game!

Playing Time

I have read a lot of the comments regarding playing time and who deserves what minutes. I probably disagree with some and agree with others, but the thing I cannot wrap my head around is people constantly call for more PT for GJ. I follow the team moderately closely and GJ seems to work hard and want to play, but he honestly does not have what it takes to play 20 minutes a game. He plays too fast, he’s out of control a lot, and seems unaware of the things on the court. I am not saying he doesn’t have the capacity to be better, all I am saying is, he should not play 20 mpg, especially if we get Marquis.

GJ is the most talented guy on this team to play that position and is the most talented of anyone considering coming to Gonzaga. Carter is not a better 1 than GJ.

Pargo

Anyone remember Pargos freshman year? It was not pretty. And as for MPG you can switch the numbers around and make it Carter 20 mpg and GJ 15 mpg But i do know this, we better have someone at PG that can play at least 20 mpg. I was just pointing out the fact that no way in hell do we have enough minutes to go around to keep 11 players happy.

S Gray

Maybe we make S Gray the PG. He can pass well and shoot from outside and make FTs. But then who would be the SG?
