Motivation
I'm watching the waining seconds of this game which will never be spoken of again (delightfully goes in at number 2, behind the UCLA game which will never be spoken of again) - and I wonder how much this was in coming. St. Mary's lost at home, and then got beat in Spokane; they were probably robbed of a spot in the tournament last year. How can they not be thinking both, "we have to win to make sure we get in," as well as wanting to come out and punch Gonzaga in the face.
I don't see how ensuring a spot in Spokane matches up to that. It's valuable beyond a doubt, but how does "Get to Spokane" match up to what St. Mary's feels coming into this game? Especially the notion of this being their year - Gonzaga was going to be rebuilding a little, so this was the time to shine.
2-1 vs. a rival is good. It's just a shame the loss has to come in the conference tournament.

I undertstand what you're saying
But at this time of the year you shouldn’t be looking for motivation. Gonzaga is the better team and should have won tonight regardless of the situation. If we can’t get up and excited for our conference championship then something is seriously wrong.

Yeah, you're right
after sleeping it over, all in all just frustrating. What a way to end.

I would hope that any ranked team would HAVE desire by now. These guys blow my mind. All that talent and…lost at tournament time.
Go figure?
