One and done

I'm not jumping off the bandwagon but after watching the Zags this last month i would be shocked if they win 1 game in the NCAA. This team is very young and now has lost their 6th man for the rest of the season. I think they will get a 7 seed. Will the real Matt Bouldin please stand up...Please stand up...And who was that guy in a Will Foster costume making 2 FTs?? Meech has NO outside game at all. Sacre can look like a superstar with his soft touch in the paint and his powerful dunks but most of the time he falls apart. Sacre will be a force in the future. Gray is a little stud that can sometimes be a dud. And we all know what Elias can do SOMETIMES. Kong may be our best 3 pt shooter but when he plays you never know what you will get, 12 pts or 0 pts. Each player on this team could have a night where they could have a 20 pt game. I dont hink i have seen a game all year where ALL the players were playing well. If we are to do anything in the NCAA this year we need a strong performance from Sacre 10+ pts and 8+ reb. Bouldin 16+ pts and 5+ apg. Gray 15+ pts. Harris 16+ pts and 6+ reb. And Meech no TOs and make some FTs. I really think next year will be even better.

This team

Could make the Elite Eight, but could also get dropped in the first round.

Good news: Everyone but the 1 seeds and 13-16 seeds are in the same boat.

:)

Not giving up quite yet...

As you started out saying, I think it is definitely to early to jump off the bandwagon. This team has a lot of potential and talent, and if one thing has proved to be true this season they always bounce back well from losses. Several of our losses this season have come from the team thinking that other teams that “aren’t as good as them” will just let us win., But then after we drop a game Few puts the team back into check, realizing that they aren’t going to win every game just because they “should.” I think they willl be able to pull off at least a couple of games this year, but as SoundPound stated:

“Could make the Elite Eight, but could also get dropped in the first round.

Good news: Everyone but the 1 seeds and 13-16 seeds are in the same boat." so you never really know."

I do think it is important to remember that since the start of the season we have known this would be a bit of a rebuilding year, and that we wouldn’t be taking home the national championship…

I see no positives...

…that make me think that they will go anywhere in the NCAA Tournament.
Anemic comes to mind…just listless, lacking in desire.
One and done sounds about right.
they just don’t instill any reason that I should believe that they are going anywhere but home.
I wished it were different .
If I’m wrong I’ll eat crow…all of it…fried or barbecue…but its not likely.
So sad.

No Positives?

I would think that if you look back at wins over Cinn, Wisc, Memph, and Ill you could manage to find a few positives. It seems to me that you are labeling this team as a “one and done” based on one poor performance, which doesn’t seem fair. Furthermore, how can you predict a first round loss without even knowing the matchup?

Don't forget...

notable games against Michigan State and Wake Forest. Although we lost, we showed that we can play with just about anyone when we are on. It will depend completely on which Gonzaga team shows up come Thursday.

Highlighting the importance of a matchup

This team has showed it can play well with some of the best out there, they certainly have the talent. The youth on this team highlights the importance of matchups for GU in the tourney. Inexperience in the system holds them back from being able to force their style of play on their opponent.

We need to matchup well to win a couple games.

Depends on match up

Let’s say they get Old Dominion…they might be a tough out for Zags due to match up. But a team like Purdue…they match up with very well and could beat them soundly.

Which Zag team will show up…that really is what is on the minds of every zag fan.

They just need to get hot

When the rest of the teams are at the same talent level or close to it, the team that is playing loose and confident will stay hot and move on. A 7 seed means low expectations. This team thrives on that (see Maui and Michigan State Game along with wins after losses). I forecast a mess in the NCAA’s this year. Lots of upsets. Good year to be an underBulldog!!

Agreed it's all about match ups

I think GU will be getting a 6 seed. Its not like teams in the 10 through 30 ranking are tareing it up lately. (pitt, nova, purdue, mich. st, ect…) If they are a 6 seed they will not have to face a 1 seed until the elite 8. I like our chances of beatting possible 2 and 3 seeds such as purdue, Nova, WV, or even a re-match against Mich. St. I think Gonzaga has historicly played better/gone further in the tournament when they are a higher seed. Making a run in the NCAA’s you need the perfect storm to happen, getting teams you match up well against is half the battle. Playing well is the other half of the battle. We need ALL the starters to play their games and we need a major boost from the bench. Kong needs to be a major factor scoreing off the bench. I’d like to see 10 points a game. Also I think Olynick needs to step up and if Foster could some how regain that energy he had for that 4 game streak and play the way he did against Memphis…Again a lot must go your way when you are playing in March. But if they can put it all together they definatly have a chance to make a run!
