Looks like there is a good amount of campers for Thursday night's Gonzaga-Saint Mary's game. Luckily for them, the weather forecast doesn't look too brutal for the week!

Wow!!!!

I know I’m getting old because all I think about is how stiff and sore I’d be in the morning if I slept outside during winter in Spokane.

If they [the Zags] could have only one quality, the quality to be able to win is not a bad one ~ Mark Few, 2005-2006

Too bad

we can’t get more legit opponents in the Kennel. I mean it’s so sad that most years zero relevant teams make their way in. This probably makes SMC players feel a lot less unknown than they really are. I mean if SMC went onto any BCS conference school’s campus, you would be able to get tickets at the gate even if you were way late to the game…

Good to see the KC is amped, because if the KC and the team show up, we win this by 30.

I know

I wish we’d do more with Mountain West programs like UNLV or San Diego State. I’d love to recruit more in SoCal and I think a home and home with them would be awesome. At least we’ve got Xavier and Michigan State coming in the near future. But I always look at the Big East schedule and can’t imagine how cool it would be to play Syracuse, West Virginia, and Villanova back-to-back-to-back. That’d just be wild.

SP

Your dreaming, right? 30? Really, or just a passing comment?

by mikesequim on Feb 9, 2010 5:16 PM PST up reply actions

Totally...

GU is better at every position besides the five. There’s no reason not to think this games shouldn’t be close.

Triple negative?

Wake up

No way is this a 30 point game.

SMC will give us their best shot and they are formidable. This is going to be a hard fought game for both teams and likely the victor will win by less than 10.

by quidveritas on Feb 10, 2010 3:12 PM PST up reply actions

We were beating them by 15+ in Moraga

was that not their best shot? They played off the charts and Samham had the game of his life and we were still beating them by 15 in the second half.

But I need to wake up, teams usually fare much better against us and feel more comfortable in the Kennel, which leads to closer games. LOL. It will take a miracle (us playing terrible+15 or more 3 pointers by SMC) for them to beat us. Plus, we are going into this game playing much better team ball than last time. I’d say you need to “wake up” for implying SMC will leave with any dignity.

Off the subject of basketball...

How about the weather in Spokane this winter? I don’t think we have had more than 6 inches of snowfall TOTAL. Seriously, I think they had more snow in Houston than Spokane. I’ve never seen anything like it but as fas as I’m concerned it could be this way every year.

by ZagsFanatic on Feb 9, 2010 2:56 PM PST reply actions

Not only was there no snow, it was also fairly warm all winter. Although I don’t really consider 35-40 warm….

You can usually pick up tickets for around $100-150 each on craigslist or eBay

Sure it’s 4-6x face value but If you are willing to drop $20,000 that is a bargain. Let me know if you want to go to one of the games at the end of February, I have extra tix. I’ll even give you my Kennel Club passes so you can get free drinks before the game and rub shoulders with the other boosters.

I'm just not the sharpest tack n the Box!

I know many here are going to chuckle but we had no idea about Ebay or Craigslist. Thanks for the info. I’ve been calling into GU on and off for the past 4 years, Geesh! The hard part was trying to line up a game with health issues that wax and wane………“Blue Hair” syndrome, lol. I can’t thank enough for the info and the offer. Seriously!

Offer is still on the table

Glad I could help, I’m not a season ticket holder but I still make it to 6-7 games per year. I will actively try to sell these tix on craigslist starting next week so you can still have the first shot at them if you want them. I have two extra tickets for the game v. Santa Clara on the 25th and two more for the revenge match v. USF on the 27th. Send me an email at mbmanaus@yahoo.com if you want more details.

Your mask is fantastic!

video of the camping

this is pretty funny to watch as people find out where to line up for tents. I know the video quality isn’t great but it gives you an idea.

Amazing how fast that line got going. So awesome.

If you can play an instrument...

you should join the Pep Band. I was a member all nine semesters I attended GU and got to travel with the men’s and women’s teams to two NCAA tourneys for free. Membership is based on participation (going to both men’s AND women’s games) rather than skill, so if you played an instrument in high school, have a lot of school spirit, and hate long lines (you show up 45 minutes before tip-off via the team/media entrance), you should consider signing up.

P.S.: Starting this year, the athletic department is taking a select 29-member band to the WCC tourney as well, so…free chartered flight to Vegas!

Go Zags!

Tent #1

So I am part of tent #1, and we will be in the front row going nuts come Thursday night. Does anyone have any good ideas for signs (ESPN2 acronym signs would be great) or anything else that would show our spirit on ESPN??? We are thinking of painting our chest or face, but we feel that that isn’t very original haha…any ideas?!

by troy7 on Feb 10, 2010 1:24 AM PST reply actions

One tip on what not to do...

Sounds like there is no risk since you are already outside but a buddy of mine painted “Sportscenter is next” on a giant sheet in the lobby of his dorm and the paint went straight through to the carpet. They were unlucky enough to get on ESPN during an M’s game and get spotted but the RA.

I had a roommate use ESPN to make the acronym “Everybody is Piss Drunk.” That would get you tossed, but it is amusing.

I made a poster of a huge can of Slim fast one year for Omar

He seemed to appreciate it…once he made a layup with that 2 inch vertical of his and ran down the floor screaming at me and my buddy (who was wearing a fat suit with a St. Mary’s #50 jersey).

Don't forget

who helped color in that ridiculously large can! Wish you could bring it back DK

Your coloring skills were marvelous...

My copier skills….not so much…I won’t be able to make this year but I will be watching on ESPN…

Send out a salute to “Mmmmerica” when the camera’s are on…

I personally

will be rocking the “#50 OverWEIGHTed” sign

by i_am_a_ZAG on Feb 10, 2010 9:28 AM PST reply actions

Burger Kong

I thought of a sign that might work. Get a picture of Bol Kong, cut and copy a burger king crown onto his head and change the “king” to “kong”. “Burger Kong! You’ll have it HIS way” You can spruce it up by getting burger king crowns from burger king.

by Brettzag on Feb 10, 2010 9:35 AM PST reply actions

That's pretty good...

I wish I could’ve thought of that.

Create a thread for these...

These ideas are all great. I think we should create a thread so that students/people going to the games can check here for ideas.

Could have acronyms for FSN, ESPN and ESPN2.

Awesome

Great posters!! Way to show school spirit and give props to the young guys on our team. I hope the Kennel is rocking with the crowd and we can put St. Mary’s in their place with a statement win!! Also, I enjoy seeing you in your mask at games and on TV, it makes me chuckle everytime!
