Zags rout NAIA opponent; brace for Baylor

Six Gonzaga players scored in double figures tonight as the Bulldogs dominated Lewis-Clark State, an NAIA Division I team.  Elias Harris led all scorers with an efficient 19 points in 19 minutes played.  The German forward only missed on one shot attempt all night.  Rob Sacre, David Stockton, Kelly Olynyk, Mathis Monninghoff, and Sam Dower all hit double figures in the 103-61 victory.

The only noteworthy item from tonight's game is that Steven Gray's toe injury is not serious and he was merely held out because, well, the opponent was an NAIA team.

Next up is a date with 9th ranked Baylor.  The Bears have played kind of a bizarro-Gonzaga schedule.  They've had seven wins this season, only one coming against a team in the power conferences.

At 5-5, Gonzaga won't do Baylor's RPI much good but this is a Gonzaga team that really doesn't have anymore excuses.  Elias Harris looks about as healthy as he has all season, but problems on the perimeter (at both ends of the court) have plagued this team all season long.

Check back for more on the Baylor game tomorrow and leading up on Saturday.

Thanks for the update on Gray.

Wish the coaches experimented with more defenses to prep for Baylor though.

Nice "feel good" win tonight

Of course, I would feel much, much better if we could possibly pull one out on the road vs Baylor this weekend!

They are ranked #9? But have not really played anyone. Maybe they are not as good as their record indicates, but I am afraid it is not the case.

Baylor can score big time from the 3. So we will see if anything has been done on that front yet.

But, nice game for Carter, MM, DS, KO, Sacre, E. Let’s build on it!

Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~

Just read an article on Perry Jones

on NBAdraft.net, they have him supplanting Harrison Barnes as the top frosh, and are projecting him #1 in draft. I think Lacedarius is playing? Great opportunity to TAKE some respect, Baylor will not give an inch, we gotta take it. Lord I hope this tough schedule brings out the best in us…GO ZAGS.

They r as reliable as any in the end for

predicting draft. Article calls Jones 6’11", 230, a more athletic David West. Sick. Kelly and Rob can compete with any one, I even think, if set up right, rob can dominate. No diss to E, but I quit guessing on him. If we get the real E back, look out, but i’m tempering my expectations on him. Licking my chops to see Steven and Dunn square off. Both are for real. Last year, Baylor played Duke to the wire, Dunn couldnt be controlled. I forgot how we did against Duke, but I think we’ll shine, and surprise, as underdogs

To win..

Have to move the ball better and hit open shots including open threes..that means you Hoff…

HAVE to play Defense for 40 minutes especially the first 5-8 minutes of the second half..

MUST value every possession and do not think you can get away with gimpy passing against a quality team….

Lastly…coach Few needs to keep up this trend of coaching…He is being the leader and we have seen the team respond…IMO

If you don't like my fire then don't come around...

Shortest Post-Game Report Ever....

And yet it was oddly appropriate given the game on the horizon and the quality of our last opponent. Clearly this game didn’t answer any questions about our team and their improvement. I guess we’ll just have to speculate about the state of things for another day until we get the Bears. I am really not optimistic about how that game will go….but I’ve been wrong before. I think that it is noteworthy that even in a 100+ point blow-out against a very poor team, Carter couldn’t break into double digits. I don’t think this is a “funk” anymore, like our perimeter defense. It’s not an exception to the rule, it is the rule. We brought in Carter to provide some respectable shooting offense and intermittent point guard play. I doubt he is capable of that now, and he’ll have to actively work to prove me wrong. Until he provides evidence contrary, he is a bust.

At-large Bid

resides on this game.

Gonzaga lost to a lot of tough opponents early, thankfully they are really good top 20 opponents and it was early.
Mid season games and late season records carry much more weight with the committee.

Gonzaga will need 2-3 quality wins before conference play.

Baylor, X, & Wake will give us those wins.

Gonzaga whoops up

on low level opponents, and get beat by top 20 usually soundly,

are they playing intimidated by the other team

are they lacking confidence in themselves or each other when going up against top 20 teams.
