The schedule said we have a game today against our beloved intra-county rival, Eastern Washington. This should be a beneficial matchup for both teams, as Gonzaga is trying to find some consistency on offense and EWU has a young team looking for a rhythm. As an Eastern student, I can tell you that this game should not be overlooked by the Gonzaga coaches and players the way it is being overlooked by the admins of this site (got on at 11:30AM and no EWU game leadup). I'm sure Zach had something better to do, but I don't, so here goes...
The Eagles are NOT going to walk into the Kennel and pull the upset. However, as Lorenzo Romar can tell you, they are very fast and could put the Zags in a hole early if Gonzaga starts slow, which I'm sure no Zags fans ever worry about. EWU doesn't have a player that can scorch the Zags defense for 30+, but they do have a young roster of players anxious to come off the bench and get their chance for extra playing time. This is the best team EWU has had since going to the NCAA tourney in 2004, given that they have a combination of young athletic players mixed with a few older, experienced players.
Players to watch
Tremayne Johnson (11.0 PPG)
Kevin Winford (13.5 PPG, had 28 pts vs. Idaho)
Jeff Forbes (10.0 PPG, defensive stopper)
Laron Griffin (8.8 PPG, 6.3 RPG)
Cliff Ederaine (7.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG)
The Zags will take them seriously at the start and cruise to a 95-60 win.
