Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

"I think it’s my Achilles’ (tendon)," said Harris, who will have an MRI today. "I heard something pop. I couldn’t get up in the air and I couldn’t run any more."

-- Spokesman-Review

Although he wasn't a major factor last night, losing Elias Harris at this juncture in the season would be devestating. The Achilles tendon is rarely a minor injury so keep your fingers crossed on this one. Harris has been battling a shoulder injury so far this season but an Achilles is a completely different animal.

This sucks in so many ways. I hope it’s all a cruel joke.

Say it ain't so!!!!

Sounds bad, every last detail

Bad Dream...

This is not the way to start the season, especially with the toughest part of the schedule coming up this week.

Yeah Elias hasnt had the best couple games, but his presence on the court alone takes pressure off the rest of the offense.

I still believe hes the biggest threat, we need him to go deep this year.

I will keep my fingers crossed.

It happened early in the 2nd half

We saw him limp off and my first thought was that he tweaked his ankle. No big deal, and he appeared to shake it off.

Welp, appearances can be deceiving.

Shoulder and a possible achilles injuries so early in such a promising season?… DAMN!!~

Let’s HOPE he is OK.

Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~

Not Good

Can’t find a silver lining here. This is all bad.

Off the charts bad, IF it is a serious injury. We still have some hope though

Nobody is allowed to breathe until we get the results of the MRI!!~

Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~

this sucks

you never want to hear achilles and pain in the same sentence. Worst case scenario, he misses the rest of the season and our younger guys get some experience against top competition, and E comes back next year full strength.

Depth

I hope that he is alright and the injury isn’t serious. That said, I don’t think it is as bad (for the team) as people are saying. Everyone was talking about his potential, but after last night I don’t see Harris being more that a role player for us anyway. He certainly isn’t a “monster” on offense (against real teams!) and is definitely a defensive liability. If he has to take time to recover, all we really lose is depth in the frontcourt.

by zora on Nov 17, 2010 4:11 PM PST reply actions

Are you serious?

One bad offensive game and all of a sudden he’s a role player? Not sure if you noticed, but SDSU (a nationally ranked team) put some of their best defenders on him in the first real game of the season.

As for being a defensive liability, he’s one of the best defenders on the team. It seems like you’ve only watched the games this season…

We rode Elias all last season

His play at the 3 is what helped us win another game in the NCAA Tourney.

Elias was a MAJOR factor in the Zags being so highly regarded entering this season {ranked #11}.

He was considered a first round NBA draft pick. He was on the Wooden Award Top 50 preseason list.

Without him the WCC streak is in serious jeopardy. Now I know how Purdue felt when Robbie Hummel went down.

Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~

Mike, still waiting official word,

But from hearing about these types of injuries, how it happened, what Elias heard and felt, it seems pretty grim. IMO, from what I have gleaned he will be out at least 6 weeks. And that is being optomistic.

Keeping my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed!

Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~

Had 3 players play for me over the years in HS that had that problem but

that was years ago and they were lost for the year and one for his whole HS career. Just a devestating injury if true and I pray God it’s not.

by mikesequim on Nov 17, 2010 5:40 PM PST up reply actions

I am!

I wish him nothing but the best concerning the injury and hope that it isn’t serious. I’ve watched the Zags for many years (even before they were nationally popular). Even when fully healthy, I would hesitate in saying that he was one of our better defenders. Unless injured, great players enforce their will on the other team.

by zora on Nov 17, 2010 5:30 PM PST up reply actions

How do you suppose...

Elias, being a player somewhat lacking defensive skills made the very prestigous JOHN WOODEN TOP 50 AWARD WATCH LIST… Hmmm???

Would it be because he is only a “role player” ? Those are your words. IMO, that is preposterous that a role player would be on that list!

Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~

Front court was our strenght

And we on thin ice in the front court. I recall a couple of posters worrying about this exact thing happening to us this season because we were already thin in front court.

Now it is reality. How this plays out of course is dependant on the extent of his injury. If he is lost for the season I don’t know if we are a top 25 team.

But enough of that, Elias is a great kid and I feel horrible for him.

Hang tough Elias!!~ Wishing you the best and a speedy recovery!!~

Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~

kinda crazy to debate now

imo a warrior, generally reserved best for.the.best competition. Never quite right this year. If he needs rest, let him have some. If his injury is serious, let him reach out and take a page from Ronny’s inspirational story. True strength of spirit and character usually prevails, in one way or another.

MRI results in

Harris only out one week. No torn tendon. This rest could be good for his shoulder as well. Look at Jeff Goodman’s twitter for a link

Here’s more on Elias Harris’ MRI coming back negative. Now it’ll be interesting to see if he plays in the CBE in K.C. – http://bit.ly/aEBwNn/blockquote>

thank you thank you

Kinda makes you forget about yesterday’s ass whooping, feels like we have new life for the season. Lets let him get healthy and get some rest for his ankle and shoulder, we just need to get to the ncaa tournament.

Think I’ll have a brewsky and celebrate the good news!!~

phewww....

And why are people dogging on Harris..He is a stud. Had a slow start but its a long season, if healthy he will tear it up.

I can handle 1 week. Just sucks we definately need him for Kansas State.

by scotthen49 on Nov 17, 2010 7:01 PM PST reply actions

Last night they were saying...

on the local sports news that E would only miss TWO DAYS of practice. Part of me wants him back for K State. But…after the “scare” I kinda want him to just relax for a couple of weeks. Go lay on a beach somewhere.

The hell with a couple of early season losses, we need him for the duration, and healthy!

And who knows? Maybe in the meantime we get our young guns battle tested and ready to go in time to help in a bigger way, for WCC games and beyond.

Its gonna be gLoRiOUS!!~
