What is on your mind?: Upcoming interview with Coach Rice

  Coach_rice_medium

As you all can probably tell by the title of this post, we have a very exciting interview on the way for the blog. We were able to setup an interview with Coach Rice, which is obviously going to be a treat for all Gonzaga fans who follow this site. However, we thought that it would be really cool if we involved all of you loyal Gonzaga fans in this interview. With that said, we wanted your input for some questions for the interview with Coach Rice. So if there is something that you want us to be sure to ask to Coach Rice, please leave the question in the comments section, and we will do our best to incorporate the question into the interview. Obviously we can't promise to include every question, but if we see one that we think would be a valuable asset to the interview, we will certainly be sure to include it. At this point, we are not sure what the date of the interview will be, so get in your questions as soon as possible. We look forward to all the input, and this should be a tremendous interview for Gonzaga fans.

Rice

I would like to know why the dramatic move from a balanced recruiting posture in the past to a definite move towards athletic wing’s and guards and away from the bigs? Essentially moving away from the ball through the post options. Second, why can’t GU find quality players in the US to come to the program? Is it the competition with other elite schools or is the player pool limited with the quality and character of players that the staff is looking for after the elite programs get their players?

Exactly

Why no solid BIG? And such attention on international players? Is this something GU will continue or is this just seizing opportunity when it arises?

How much time do you and Few spend together

What type of relationship do the two of you have? How long have you known each other and how much time do you find yourself spending together? Do your families end up being close with each other? Thanks

More or less this year?

Does he expect we will run more or less:
1. Low post offensive sets?
2. Fast breaks?
3. Man-to-man defense?
4. Press (other than in behind-in-points situations)?
5. Platooned substitution?

Does he anticipate any 2010-2011 pre-season team travel to foreign locales, and if so where to?

Player Roles

I’m interested in reading about Coach Rice’s thoughts on the role of different players for this upcoming season.
Will Grant Gibbs be a serious contributor?
What is the plan for Poling? Kong?

I know he will not have a real answer to these questions until after the team has played together for a while, but the coaches have to at least have an idea of what they hope will happen with these guys and their roles. His thoughts have got to be better than all the speculation that is floating around the internet.

All great questions!

We’ll be talking to Leon shortly and will try to get them answered!

Hidden Gem

You should notify Coach Rice about the hidden gem Torrell Candelaria. I did an article on him! Great Player!
