kelly Olynyk report

I saw Kelly Olynyk play in the B.C.  provincial finals tournament in Vancouver two weeks ago. He put up incredible offensive numbers for the 4 games averaging  36.5 points and 15.5 rebounds. Despite these huge numbers there are many serious problems with his game. In the game I saw in which they lost he played the entire first half with his hands at his side on defence allowing his team to be outscored by 24 points. He was often the last up the court on either side. This was a semi final game and was the most important of his life with 3,000 or so fans in attendance so effort was not a factor.   His foot speed and energy are remarkably lacking. His outside shooting although very accurate is very slow on release and easily defended. His inside game against physical players was nil.  One of his coaches who is friend of mine told me I might be dissapointed the the appearance of his game but that his results speak for themselves. I don't mean to beat on the poor guy too much as his is from my home town of Kamloops and a future Zag, but getting his speed and defence anywhere close to D1 levels will be a great challenge for Few and staff.

Good luck Kelly.

PS.  His team the South Kamloop Titans lost the game in OT then went on the win the next game to finish 3rd.
