No love for the ladies?

Come on, Courtney Vandersloot wins WCC player of the year, and her, Heather Bowman, and Vivian Frieson were named First-Team All-WCC! Hell, even Kelly Bowen was named to the all-freshman team!

Just another great year for a program that has continued to build on it's success every season. For the third year in a row, Gonzaga has had the WCC Player of the year.

And now with a 2-round bye in the ladies tournament, the Zags only have to win 2 games to go to the NCAA tourney.

Show some love, SSF!

i get the feeling

this is just a pathetic attempt to get some action or hes dead serious, both of which are kinda scary

It's scary to give props to a team that has done well?

I’m a Gonzaga fan, which means that I am a fan of all of Gonzaga’s teams – basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, etc. And as such, I’ll give props to every team that deserves it. We all love the men’s basketball team, but you still need to recognize that there are other teams that are doing well, too.
To be a Gonzaga fan meas that you support all of Gonzaga’s teams. Why is it so wrong to be proud of your fellow students?

Again....

It’s women’s basketball. Sports aren’t ‘equal-opportunity’ when it comes to viewership and level of care. I consider myself a Gonzaga fan in the sense that I want each and every one of our teams to do the best they can, but not even a potential NCAA tournament championship could get me to watch or pay attention to women’s basketball—it’s just too painful to watch. The same goes for Men/Women’s soccer, baseball, golf, etc. Who said it’s ‘scary to give props to a team that has done well?’ You are just being snark and ignorant with you comments. No one said it’s wrong to be proud of our fellow students…we just don’t care. Can you understand that?

They definitley deserve plenty of credit for their great season

They have been consistently getting better and better under Kelly Graves and have started to build a near powerhouse in the conference. We will give them more coverage as time goes on. It’s our first season of covering the actual basketball season so we are still getting our feet wet and hopefully we can get more and more sports involved as we continue blogging.

Good luck to the ladies, and thanks for pointing this all out, Sandberg.

No prob

and don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t trying to say that they need more coverage. I was just trying to give them some props.

Well said

The girls have been kicking ass all year and with only 2 players graduating, only 1 of which gets significant time on the floor, they are looking to do it again next year. I agree, they do deserve some love. Plus, there re a lot of people out there who do care. They had over 1500 people at every game.

Too much

My cousin graduated from GU 2 years ago and was a starter on the womens team, (initials K.R. if you really care). Anyways, I have watched more effing girls basketball games than I ever wanted to, and I seriously loathe those games more than anything in the world.

My brother and I have come up with a theory. We were in the kennel watching our cousin play and my lil bro looks at me and says, “I just feel angry, like something pisses me off about watching girls games”. We sat in silence for awhile and then he figured it out and we came up with this theory. Girls can’t go more than 4 possessions without a turnover/loose ball of some kind. We tested it, 1…2….sure enough off the knee out of bounds. 1….2….3….slapped away out of bounds. 1….nope that’s a steal. It is so frustrating, but the fact that we’ve pinpointed it leads you on the road to recovery.

Test it out, let me know how it works out for you

are you forgetting about pargo?

are you kidding me here? have you not seen pargo’s performance this year? what happened? how many turnover’s in a game does he average now? It’s almost like we expect them from him now and when it doesn’t happen, it’s a pleasant surprise.
Also, think about this: one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time, John Wooden, wants to raise the height of the basketball hoop for men’s basketball to make the game more like women’s basketball. There is something very interesting in the technique and finesse of how women play the game, it is very different than men’s you just have to appreciate it.
I understand that the excitement of dunks and blocked shots are riveting in the performance in a men’s game, but that doesn’t give you a right to be so freaking sexist.

Pargo averages 2.48 TO's per game this year

Chris Paul averages 3.02 TO’s per game this year, Tony Parker averages 2.63 TO’s per game this year, Jonny Flynn averages 2.77 TO’s per game this year, Patty Mills averages 2.56 TO’s in the games he has played this year, Jeff Teague averages 3.23 TO’s per game this year, Eric Maynor averages 3 TO’s per game this year, Stephen Curry averages 3.53 TO’s per game this year, AJ Price averages 2.63 TO’s per game this year.

All the college players are predicted to go higher in the draft than Pargo. Guess its not so bad after all…

by James Buchanan on Mar 17, 2009 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

my point wasn’t that pargo is a bad player, it was that turnovers happen in the men’s games frequently and that mistakes don’t necessarily make it less exciting. I mainly wanted to defend how girls play and explain that it’s a different (but very intriguing) game.

I'll admit...

There are one or two really talented women teams each year (Tenn or UCONN usually), but the rest of the field is just too painful to watch for more than a split second. Also, I hate when I’m flipping through channels and see two big name schools playing (like Tenn. & UConn), and then realize after getting really excited that it’s a women’s game. No amount of hype could get me to watch more than five full minutes (unless there is a promise of a brawl).
