Ehlo and Heister

When are these two going to get their heads into the game?? I was so frustrated by their "coverage" late in the Augustana game when they got off on one of their usual tangents about totally irrelevant subjects, like wearing "mercury" (they meant copper) and various treatments for pain, WSU, Klay, quarterbacks, yada, yada, yada. All the while, they weren't even introducing players finally getting on to the floor for some game time, i.e., Pohling and Maag. These guys deserved to at least be acknowledged as they come on the floor. They get so little play time, and when they do get to come in, at least introduce them, guys! It's not about you, Craig and Greg, it's about the Zags. So get off your soaps and announce it. Oh for Richard Fox to be on TV instead of radio, which we can't get in our area!

Rarely do I get to listen to the FSN feed

but I was consistently floored by the incompetence and stupidity of their banter. I feel like 70% falls on Ehlo, who is unable to listen, speak, or think coherently, but Heister aids and abets Ehlo’s shenanigans on a regular basis.

A few favorite moments: Heister says he’s definitely going to watch the WSU game after this, and Ehlo responds, “that’s a 70 mile drive, Greg, it’ll take you over an hour and the game starts at 8.” Perhaps even better than that was Ehlo saying, “This is like a David and Goliath matchup, only there’s no David.”

Stupidity, etc.

Agreed. We keep a mental journal of “Ehloisms” — stupid statements that he constantly makes. I wonder if the coaches ever watch the FSN broadcasts. If they did, I would hope they would have a friendly chat with these two bozos and get some professionalism back in there. It’s truly embarrassing.

My Favorite

Last year, Ehlo said one of the players was “amphibious” instead of ambidextrous. Geez.

Best Announcers Ever!

You people are missing the point. Usually announcers are just plain bad. Terrible analysis or really obvious calls. Rarely do you get a guy like Gus Johnson who could announce any sport ever and provide thoughtful analysis while getting me genuinely excited in a game. I got really excited when the raiders got a first down one game. I hate the raiders… But I do have a small man crush on Gus. Anyways, the point is, Heister and Ehlo are so bad, the are so entertaining. Heister or Ehlo called a move Daye did last year the “dream shake.” Here are a few more Heisterisms and Ehloisms:
"…You win that tip off and you get a lot of momentum for your team"
-Ehlo [opening tip-offs win basketball games]
"Put down your nachos!!! The Zags are next!"
-Heister
"7 foot 4. i can’t imagine trying to find pants."
-Heister on Will Foster
"You want to see your point guard get a lot of assists and no turnovers."
-the smartest thing Ehlo said all night.

If I wanted to hear someone babble like a drunken idiot...

I’d watch the game at a bar next to a drunken idiot. The purpose of play-by-play guys is to provide play-by-play, and that of color commentators is to provide color commentary. Clowns belong in a circus.

Not good announcers

If they were talking within the context of the game, that’d be one thing. These two literally checked out for most of the 2nd half! The players on the court are worth talking about, the plays they are making are worthy of mention. I don’t mind a catchy line occasionally like you mention, but to completely go off topic for long stretches and ignore the game is so unprofessional…..and these guys keep getting asked back? Who is in charge of them? Can we get someone to please remind them to call the game?

Agree with Zagphan

You’re totally right. What really brought it home was watching Jay Bilas and company announce in Maui. THAT is professional broadcasting. Maybe Greg and Craig should watch what real announcers do at a game!

You know

On the KHQ broadcast they did actually mention the names of a few subs incl. Maag and Poling but you wouldn’t have noiticed because they were so busy blathering about other crap. Ehlo is a total moron and Heister just likes to hear himself talk.
Can someone tell me who was calling the games before Heister? it is on the tip of my tongue… He was light years ahead of this jerk.

I think his name was Tom Hudson

that rings a bell for some reason…

i can’t stand Ehlo either. i think Heister would be okay if his partner was better. i’d be all for Fox replacing Ehlo. he’s funny and goofy.

Dennis Patchin, maybe...

He was the radio guy, but I can only remember Heister doing TV. He had former Zag Jeff Brown doing color (with Ehlo stuck as a “sideline reporter”), who I always thought was terrible, but that was before Ehlo.
Patchin’s the only one I can think of who it might have been.

Whoops...

Meant to hit the reply button.

I like Ehlo personally

BUT

As of late their broadcasts have been awful. Definitely shows a lack of preparation for the games. If you know a game is going to be a problem, seems to me you need to have something in the wings to discuss that is ???? relevant to the team.

Just a suggestion, but with a D.III game on the schedule, might not be a bad time to profile some of the lesser known players because you know they are going to get some minutes.

Nuff said.

Heister and Ehlo call a lot of blowouts

At some point, when the Zags are winning by 30 over teams like Augustana, as an announcer you run out of things to talk about and make the game interesting. So they just kick back and talk about any random thing that comes into their heads.
I want to see Heister and Ehlo call a close game, and see what that’s like.
