Steven Gray/WF aftermath

I've always been a huge fan of Steven, but I had to see if he was OK after yesterday.  He choked so hard when he went to the line for those 3 free throws that I just had to check that he is breathing again.  First of all, he was non-existant in the first half, which was fine.  But he went to the line with a chance to tie it after Aminu gave us the GIFT of missing two of his own, and with the opportunity to get our heads back above water Steven choked it away.  This wouldn't be such an issue, but I believe that this, along with his 2 open 3-point misses at the end of the MSU game, answers the Matt or Steven end of the game question.  I know that the Bulldogs did everything in their power to hand WF a win and only lost by 2, and I know it was not Steven's fault.  Meech was terrible yesterday, as was Sacre.  Gray is still my favorite player on this team, but my confidence in him is gone at the moment.

This game was set up to show that we were unbeatable.  It would've been the fourth time in eight team games that we came back from 13+ down to win.  We took the worst momentum shift I've seen in my 10+ yrs of watching college basketball, and then took another DAGGER after the Olynyk "foul" and Meech tech.  The Kelly/Meech one would've seemed so much more horrible if we weren't trying to recover from that other one at the time.  A lot of negatives came from this game, but it was like they were all going to be erased... until Steven choked.

Another thing we can't put on Steven is WF's clutch, lockdown shooting.  It was like they just needed to see one of their guys take a hit and all of a sudden Jeff Teague was back or something.  WTF?  Not only were they hitting shots, but they were at the most painful times for us.  A positive that comes from this game is WF showed that they cannot miss shots, so I can't see them losing much in the ACC, and losing this game doesn't hurt us too bad because it was a close one against a team that will win a lot.  I mean we did fine after the half recovering from the Harris ejection, but it was hard to claw back when WF has better athletes, or best athlete is in the showers, AND they are making jump shots beyond their capability(or so I thought).

What conference were those officials from?  Pathetic how one sided they were, but the Kennel Klub didn't help.  Shut up with the personal chants against refs!  Not clever/smart/funny/effective/impressive or anything but embarrasing so can it!  Chanting "This ref sucks" probably made him swallow the whistle when Aminu climbed over one of our bigs for that board late.  You guys used to be clever but now it's too straightforward and hurting our team.

I want to commend the ZAGS on a great, hard fought comeback which Steven contributed to.  This game was beyond brutal, but they still made it fun at the end.  The Gray FT's would've tied it with plenty of time left for WF, BUT IF YOU GO TO THE LINE FOR THREE SHOTS DOWN BY THREE, MAKE THE SHOTS!!!! PLEASE!!!!! AGHHHHHH!!!!!!

Difficult to watch game

While you are speculating on if the ref decided to not call the over the back on aminu because of the kennel club’ stupid acting of the officials, I have to agree the kennel looks pretty stupid when it chants at the refs for a noticeable foul. Yes hard to believe but sometimes a zag player legitimately fouls a player on the other team. The best thing to do if you are in the kennel when a zag player does noticeably foul is to just clap and move on. If there is a play like KO ‘blocking foul’ that is the time to explode. In other words do not participate in attacking the refs when there is a foul, but be destructively loud at all other times.

I agree with most of your thoughts especially Wake’s clutch shooting. They only shot around 38 percent but because of those freaking offensive boards, they were able to take more and thus…WIN! Clean up the boards, get Kong in there because he can make big shots and develop some true gamers.
