NCAA tournament sites

So I was looking to find out what the NCAA tourny sites were so I could plan a trip and I noticed that Spokane is a site. I can only assume that it would be in Spokane Arena because that is where it was held a few years back. My question is what is the rule on whether a team can play on there "home" court in the tourny. I was under the impression it is if you play two or more games in the site then you may not play there during the tourny. Anyways if anyone knows the rule specifically that would be interesting. Also, if so do we play more then two games in the spokane arena because I think there is a chance if we get a highish seed we could play in Spokane for the tourny which would be a huge benefit (also really cool experience for anyone who goes, i was in Portland last year and it was amazing, so I can't imagine what spokane would be like).

depends on the host...

each site has a ‘host’ school for the site, and that team is NOT allowed to play at that site if they make the tournament. I think that WSU is the host again this year for the Spokane site, so if GU is able to get a high enough seed, then we would be able to play here in Spokane.

Yes, your right that year the host was WSU. But there is an additional rule about a school not playing at there home site. And the what determines whether an arena is a “home” site is a certain amount of games. I’m not sure what the rule is specifically but I remember that year one of the announcers saying during the Memphis game that we couldn’t play there during the tournament because it was technically one of our “home” courts because we had played x amount of games. It is all very odd, my guess is I can find it on the official NCAA website. Thanks for your help.

Simply depends on the host

If WSU is the host GU can play at that site.

Definitive Answer

The host school (i.e. WSU) is not eligible to play at the Spokane site. Any school which plays 3 or more games at the exact site will not be eligible to play there, either. Gonzaga is most definitely eligible to play at the Arena. They also stipulate that any team seeded 1-5 should not have a geographic disadvantage making it very likely that Gonzaga will play in Spokane if they reach their potential and get a fairly high seed.

Just for kicks, what if Eastern was able to win the Big Sky tourney and get in. Would they be able to play in Spokane as say a 15, 14 or maybe a 13 seed? Wouldn’t that be something if both GU and EWU were playing at the same regional. I know its a pipe dream, but that’s what dreams are about, aren’t they?

It'd be cool...

They wouldn’t let that happen. The highest EWU could get is a 15, and there’s no way the bracket builders would give EWU such a home field advantage against a 1 or 2 seed. That would be a BLAST to have EWU and GU play in the arena for a big game, but it simply won’t happen. We could very well see GU here, though, and I believe we only play one game in the arena every year for this reason. Otherwise they would have enough respect for their fans to give us more than one game we can get in to.

If Gonzaga gets a high ranking, the biggest threat to keep

them out of Spokane might be Washington…

If two teams from the same natural region are in contention for the same bracket position, the team ranked higher in the seed list shall remain in its natural region.
