In an effort to beef up its non-conference schedule, ASU will play Gonzaga in next season's John R. Wooden Classic, an event played at The Honda Center in Anaheim. ASU also is scheduled to participate in the Great Alaska Shootout.

Clearly ...

… this is because Gonzaga needs ASU and not because ASU needs Gonzaga. :-)

Absolutely

We really need an RPI boost!

Seriously, it’s a great match up for Gonzaga. ASU is always dangerous and exciting. Next year’s schedule is going to be great with Xavier, Illinois, Memphis, and Michigan State all close to home and ASU for our west coast fans a little farther down south!

Beautiful. The irony is obvious here. Especially the part about ASU wanting to “strengthen its non-conference schedule”.
