Zags Drop to #17 in ESPN/USA Today Poll; #16 in the AP

You can't be too upset about this one.  After losing to Portland State, a team with losses to Cal Poly and Hampton, Gonzaga only drops into the teens in this weeks Coaches Poll.  The Zags are the only three loss team still ranked this week and have been passed in the Coaches Poll by teams like Clemson, Michigan State, Syracuse, and Villanova. The AP Poll has us above unbeaten Clemson, Louisville, Baylor, and Arizona State.  Personally, I could have seen Gonzaga slipping all the way down to around #20.

So what do you think...too high, too low? Surprised we are still ranked?  Let us know.

I thought we'd drop to at least 15

16/17 sounds about right, I wouldn’t have been surprised by worse considering the losses. Hopefully we can get back on track.

This is actually higher than I thought

I actually thought we could have dropped to 11 or 12 after the UCONN loss and then down to the low 20’s or even unranked after this one. After losing 3 of 4, with two of those losses coming to unranked foes, I’d imagine us dropping even lower. If we can go the rest of the season with just one or two more losses (Tennessee and a conference game), I imagine we can stay in the top 15. I mean a 5 loss season is not bad…especially when at least 3 of the losses came against teams that will be in the tournament.

Good point

I see losses coming against Tennessee and St. Mary’s on the road. If that is the case then we’d have 5 losses against 5 teams that will probably be in the NCAA tournament. We have to avoid another Portland State letdown though or else we really could be looking at another 6 or 7 seed.

The worst thing that came from PSU loss...

We might not get to play in Portland or Boise. I think that loss has bumped us from a 2 or 3 seed to a 4 or 5 seed. That may just be enough to bump us from the west coast to somewhere in the East or Midwest. But if they can beat Utah, Tennessee and Memphis and lose just once in conference (including tournament), a 4 loss team with the wins GU has should get at least a 3 seed. Please don’t give us a 5 seed as we could easily be the 5 seed that gets upset(it always happens). ANYTHING BUT A 5 SEED!!! haha

Deserved

The quote from the voter from the Seattle Times says it all. Dropping 3 out 4, 2 to unranked teams, and 1 at home is too much.
